CSKA Moskva lost pace in front after the 1:1 draw with Rubin Kazan, while Dinamo won the set 6:2 from Terek Grozny.
Round 20 is mixed news for Anzhi Makhachkala so far, but not too bad, after all.
CSKA stands with 42 points with Zenit trailing with just three points, possibly closing the gap today.
Kazan is 2 points ahead of Anzhi, while Dinamo strengthened their position with the 6:2 thrashing.
Today's away game against Spartak is as crucial as any for Anzhi, and they will push with extra resolve and new signings Dzsudzsák and Zhirkov.
A win would get Anzhi back to fourth position, while anything else is good for a disappointing fifth. The atmosphere promises to be terrific.
